National Professor Dr. M R Khan has created a charitable trust in his and his wife's name - 'Dr. M. R. Khan and Anwara Trust.' The Trust was established out of his pension benefit and gratuity fund after his retirement from public service. Through this trust assistance is being provided to different other philanthropic organizations and individuals with a view to benefitting the society, in general. This Trust also awards gold medals to individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to social and economic development of the country. Among the notable recipients are Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus (Grameen Bank) and Sir Fazle Hasan Abed (BRAC Foundation), Valerie Ann Taylor (CRP), Angela Gomes (Banchte Shekha), Dr. Sultana Zaman (Kalyani Foundation), and Late Tahera Kabir. The same Trust also awards the Shishu Bandhu Gold Medal - named in honour of Prof. M. R. Khan.
The 'Dr. M. R. Khan and Anwara Trust’ has now come forward to offer scholarships to a good number of deserving students of Central University of Science and Technology (CUST) from 2017. Under this scheme a total of 5 scholarships (equivalent to 75% of the tuition fee) for 5 students under 5 CUST schools would be provided to meritorious students of underprivileged class. However, based on the number of total students of CUST, this number may vary. The procedure to apply for this scholarship would be available in CUST webpage very soon.
The course curricula of CUST have been designed to cater for continuous integration of industry-driven competencies with a view to narrowing down the gap between what is taught in the classroom and what is being practiced in the industries. Thus CUST maintains very strong linkages with the industries. This symbiotic relationship of CUST and the Industries would also benefit the students in terms of scholarships offered by the partner industries, operating in the national and international level. Various scholarships would be offered to the students with effect from 2017 from the Partner Industries in different disciplines. Such scholarship may be a cash grant, tuition fee waiver or research grant. The procedure to apply for this scholarship would be available in CUST webpage very soon.
The Vice Chancellors ‘Most Talented Student’ scholarship is the highest prestigious scholarship of CUST where the meritocracy would be the prime consideration. This scholarship fund has been created from the personal fund of Vice Chancellor. The number of recipients of this scholarship would depend on the students’ achievement in their academic pursuit. However, a good number of students from different disciplines would be entitled for such scholarship every year. This scholarship may be a cash grant, tuition fee waiver or campus visit of internationally reputed universities along with a colouful crest. The procedure to apply for this scholarship would be available in CUST webpage very soon.
Advance Welfare Foundation (AWF) has been promoting higher education since 1998. This ‘not for profit’ foundation has been widely lauded by leaders of education management from home and abroad for its relentless efforts to offer affordable higher education. The CUST is the highest education platform of AWF and accordingly, it has kept provision for as good as 10 scholarships every year for the meritorious students of various disciplines representing the underprivileged population of the country. Such scholarship may be a cash grant, tuition fee waiver or grant for books or even hostel allowance. The procedure to apply for this scholarship would be available in CUST webpage very soon.
