At the very outset, I would like to pay my heartfelt thanks to aspiring students, respected parents and all other stakeholders of Industry-Driven Central University of Science and Technology (CUST) for visiting the website of CUST, which is aimed to be a splendid sanctuary of teaching and learning for promotion of education.
Simply saying, education is a process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge and skills. The term ‘knowledge’ can refer to a theoretical or practical understanding of a subject, which is very difficult to measure in true sense, though it is not that difficult to categorize the level of one’s ‘skill’. However, it is very much clear that the terms education, knowledge and skill are contextual and bear high degree of ambiguity. This ambiguity has perhaps opened up a window of opportunity to treat education as a product/commodity where the ultimate buyer may be unidentified or ignored. It is very depressing that nowadays ‘education ‘has emerged as a product, and students and parents have become its immediate buyers where the expectation of the ultimate consumers – the industry, the state and the global conglomerates are either ignored or underestimated.
It is really disheartening to see that GPA/CGPA became the only measure of education whereas the actual quality is overlooked most of the time. CUST aims to come out of the traditional buyer seller and product concept with regards to education. We would like to treat all beneficiaries of education as ‘Stakeholders’, which would essentially include among others, students, parents, industries, society, state and the globalized community. Accordingly, CUST also intends to take up the challenge of imparting quality education, which would cater to the integration of industry driven competencies and would enhance the capability of economy and humanity. CUST wishes that a consortium of all stakeholders would measure the excellence of the education it imparts. We are confident that with the kind guidance of our Board of Trustees, collaboration from academic colleagues at the national and international level, support from the society, patronization from the industries and above all, whole-hearted support from the students and their guardians, CUST will emerge as the best industry-driven university in the country. I dream that every ‘Graduation Crown’ would be replaced by an ‘Industrial Hat’ immediately after the convocation of our students.
Finally, we strongly believe that our success lies in our passion for teaching and learning and our commitment to our students for whom we really exist.
I wish you all the best and look forward to welcoming you to our University.
